A Netrokona court has sentenced three to death and 19 others to life in prison over a murder and robbery case in 2011.

Netrokona District and Sessions Judge AKM Rashedur Rahman announced the verdict on Tuesday.

Osman Gani, Kowsar Ahmed and Taher have been given the death sentence, says a bdnews24 report.

Five convicts were present in court when the judge delivered the verdict and others were tried as fugitives, said Public Prosecutor Saiful Alam Pradeep.

The robbers attacked several houses in Adampur Goalbari village in Khaliajuri Upazila in 2011, according to case details.

When the villagers hemmed in the robbers in a bid to protect their valuables, the armed men opened fire, leaving Chayan Sarker, a local villager, dead.

Chayan’s father Monoranjan Sarker filed a case following the incident. Police pressed charges against 23 people.
