Two dead, one injured in Chattogram’s Terry Bazar blaze

Two people have died and another has been hospitalised after a fire broke out in a multi-storey building in Terry Bazar, Chattogram.

Chattogram Medical College Hospital declared two people dead at 11:50 am on Thursday, according to Sub-Inspector Nurul Alam Asheq of the hospital’s police outpost.

The dead were identified as Mohammad Yunus, 52, and Md Solaiman, 28, both from Patiya in Chattogram, bdnews24.com reports.

Another person is receiving treatment at the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The blaze erupted around 10:00 am on the fourth floor in the 12-storey Orchid Plaza building.'

Fire Service officials said three people who fell ill due to smoke inhalation were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.

Four units from Agrabad Fire Service Control Room responded to the incident and brought the fire under control around 11:00 am.

Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service Atish Chakma said seven shops on the fourth floor, including tailoring and clothing outlets, were burnt in the blaze.

The multi-storey building houses garment shops, tailoring units, and clothing outlets across several floors.

The cause of the fire as well as the extent of damage have yet to be determined, Atish said.

“Three people became unwell from smoke inhalation. Two were rescued from the fifth floor and one from the sixth floor,” he added.
