At least two young men have died after their motorcycle veered out of control, hit a palm tree, and fell into a pond in Netrokona's Kalmakanda.
Another passenger was critically injured, reports bdnews24.com.
The accident occurred on the Kalmakanda-Durgapur Road in the Rahimpur area of Nazirpur Union around 1:15am on Saturday, said Kalmakanda Police Station chief Abul Hashem.
The dead have been identified as Nirab Mia, 24, hailing from the Purba Bazar area of Kalmakanda Sadar Union, and Sohan Mia, 20, a native of the Ghoshpara area of the same union.
The injured Billal Mia, 18, is a resident of Ghoshpara village.
Citing locals, police station chief Hashem said that three young men were returning home after meeting with friends at Rahimpur Bazar during Eid holidays. When they reached the Gajarmari Bridge area, the vehicle veered out of control and crashed into a palm tree, falling into a pond on the side of the road.
Locals rescued all three passengers with serious injuries and took them to the Upazila health complex. There, doctors at the emergency department declared Nirab and Sohan dead.
Shouvik Shraban Dutta, one doctor, said that the two men died before being brought to the hospital.
As the injured Billal's condition had deteriorated, doctors sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
