Protests disrupted traffic in Mirpur as battery-operated auto-rickshaws and easy-bike drivers blocked several roads. In response, authorities have taken measures to ensure the safety of Metro Rail commuters by closing two gates at Mirpur-10 station.
According to Mahmud Khan, additional police super of MRT, “As rickshaw pullers have taken to the streets with sticks in protest, the MRT police intensified security measures at Mirpur-10 station since Sunday morning.”
For the safety of Metro Rail and passengers, authorities have decided to close two gates located on the northern side of Mirpur-10 station. However, other gates remain operational as usual, according to a local media outlet report.
The drivers are protesting against the battery-operated rickshaws being stopped and dumped. They started protesting on Sunday at around 10 in the morning on the roads of Mirpur 12 and Mirpur 10. Consequently, the transportation services in the areas of Mirpur 10, 11, and 12 have been significantly affected.
