Woman dies after falling into elevator shaft in Dhaka

A woman has died after falling into the shaft intended for the installation of a lift in a residential building in the Konapara area of Dhaka’s Demra.

The victim has been identified as Halima Kaysar Bokul, 55, who lived on the fourth floor of the building. She fell into the shaft on her way down from her apartment.

The incident occurred around 7:30 pm on Sunday. She was then rescued and taken to a local hospital, bdnews24.com reports.

From there, Halima was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment. There, a doctor on duty declared her dead around 8:30 pm, according to Inspector Md Faruk of the DMCH Police Outpost.

Halima’s son, Md Bappi, said they lived on the fourth floor of the building and his mother was seriously injured when she fell while coming down the stairs.
