Manchester United's head coach Ruben Amorim insisted that his team “can win in game”, citing their possession play despite a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.
In their opener at Old Trafford on Sunday, Arsenal secured victory through Riccardo Calafiori's 13th-minute header from a Declan Rice corner, which United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir failed to keep out.
United controlled 61 percent of possession, attempted 22 shots with seven on target, and generated an expected goals (xG) value of 1.59, according to Opta.
However, the Gunners' goalkeeper David Raya, named player of the match, made seven saves to deny United an equaliser.
“We prove today that we can win any game in the Premier League, especially against a great team like Arsenal,” Amorim told reporters after Sunday’s loss, as quoted by The Athletic.
“We were the better team.
“It’s our feeling that we played better. In the end, we lose the game, but I’m really proud of the effort they put in.”
The Red Devils will look to bounce back next Sunday when they visit Fulham.
