MAGURA, July 23: Leg-spinner Fahima Khatun has become the first Bangladeshi to claim a hat-trick in the T20 international cricket match. She bagged the hat-trick in the ICC Women's World T20 Qualifier tournament held in the Netherlands on July 10.

The 25-year-old bowler picked up four wickets in her spell of four overs while giving away just eight runs. Eventually, Bangladesh Women beat United Arab Emirates Women by eight wickets.

Fahima, daughter of Altaf Hossain and Farida Begum of stadiumpara in Magura town, told the FE that she had a dream to become a cricketer from her childhood.

"As no girls in the town played cricket, I started playing cricket with other boys on a small ground adjacent to our house," she said.

After some days, she came to know that a cricket training camp was going to be held at the stadium. Even though 50 girls took part in the training camp, only she was selected for higher training. Finally, she joined Bangladesh Women's T-20 Cricket Team.

Fahima, a student of law department at Islamic University, also said Bangladesh had qualified for T-20 world cup due to her outstanding performance.

"This is my satisfaction. This is my success," she added.

Fahima's father Altaf Hossain said when the whole country was enjoying world cup football matches, he along with his wife kept close watch on television to see their daughter's performance in the Netherlands.

"My heart was filled with joy at my daughter's outstanding performance. It was joy not only for me but also for all cricket-loving countrymen," he added.
