Beximco leads most-traded stocks in H1

Beximco, the flagship company of the Beximco Group, led the most-traded stocks in the first half (H1) of the calendar year 2022 while the top ten most-traded stocks grabbed one-fourth transactions of the Dhaka bourse during the period.

In the first six months (January-June) of 2022, the total turnover on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) clocked in at Tk 1,174 billion, with Beximco accounting for 6.90 per cent of the turnover by generating Tk 81.06 billion.

Market analysts said Beximco continued to top the turnover lists on most trading days during the period under review amid an influx of buyers and sellers.

The company's share closed at Tk 129.80 on Thursday last, shedding 13 per cent over the first six months of 2022.

Earlier on November 11, 2021, Beximco's share price jumped to a record high at Tk 185.

Beximco has led the market from the front in the past one year as the news of a big jump in its net profit prompted investors to buy the company's shares, said a stockbroker.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) jumped 207 per cent to Tk 13.18 for July 2021-March 2022 as against Tk 4.30 for July 2020-March 2021.

The company disbursed a 35 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2021. In 2020, it provided a 5.0 per cent cash dividend.

The company's authorised capital is Tk 10 billion and paid-up capital is Tk 8.76 million while the total number of securities is 876.31 million.

Sponsor-directors own 33.94 per cent stake in the company while institutional investors 27.48 per cent, foreign investors 1.11 per cent and the general public 37.47 per cent as on May 31, 2022, the DSE data showed.

Fortune Shoes came second on the turnover list for January-June 2022, with shares worth Tk 41.94 billion changing hands during the period under review. The shoe maker's share advanced 1.0 per cent to close at Tk 93.30 on Thursday.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 40 billion changing hands. The state-owned company's share closed at Tk 117.30, soaring 65 per cent during the period under review.

Orion Pharma emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 26.52 billion changing hands in January-June 2022. The company's share price fell 3.0 per cent to close at Tk 88 on Thursday.

Sonali Paper & Board Mills notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 20.11 billion changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 582.20 on Thursday, losing 9.0 per cent.

The turnover of LafargeHolcim Bangladesh was Tk 19.28 billion. The multinational cement maker's share price dropped 4.0 per cent in six months to close at Tk 68.40 on Thursday.

IPDC Finance featured a turnover of Tk 18.55 billion. The company's share closed at Tk 52.70, rising 41 per cent during the period under review.

The turnover of Saif Powertec was Tk 17.10 billion in January-June 2022. The company's share plunged by 15 per cent to close at Tk 32.50 on Thursday.

The state-run Power Grid Company featured a turnover of Tk 16.27 billion. The company's share closed at Tk 56.90, shedding 5.0 per cent in six months.

Genex Infosys featured a turnover of Tk 15.76 billion. Its share price also fell 49 per cent to close at Tk 76 on Thursday.
