The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) has published a Bengali guidebook named “Commodity Derivatives Insights” the first Bengali-language guidebook on commodity derivatives trading, as part of its broader efforts to prepare market participants ahead of the launch of commodity exchange market.

The CSE Chairman AKM Habibur Rahman formally unveiled the cover of the publication on Thursday in the presence of members of the CSE Board of Directors and senior officials of the exchange.

The Bengali publication comes at a time when the country’s capital market institutions are intensifying preparations for the introduction of commodity derivatives trading, a segment widely considered essential for improving price discovery, hedging, and risk management in commodity-dependent economies.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the CSE chairman said the guidebook would help readers develop a clear understanding of the participants, mechanisms and operational framework of an organised commodity market.

He noted that the book contains a detailed explanation of futures contract trading procedures on commodity derivatives exchanges, which would help potential investors, traders, brokers and institutional participants understand the structure of the market before the launch of trading activities.

According to CSE officials, the book has been designed as a practical and educational resource for a broad range of readers, including investors, students, researchers, policymakers and businesses involved in commodity trading and supply chains.

The publication extensively discusses the relationship and differences between commodity derivatives markets and spot markets, alongside the role of clearing corporations or central counterparties (CCPs) in ensuring settlement efficiency and market stability.

It also explains price risk management techniques in commodity derivatives exchanges and highlights the growing importance of hedging culture in protecting businesses from commodity price volatility.

The guidebook further includes frequently asked questions and answers on commodity derivatives trading, as well as a glossary of technical terms to familiarize readers with derivative market terminology.

Market insiders say the publication reflects CSE’s continuing push to build awareness and technical capacity ahead of the launch of Bangladesh’s first commodity derivatives platform.

CSE has already introduced a series of certification courses and awareness programmes on commodity derivatives in collaboration with market experts and international exchanges. The exchange is also working on developing the necessary technological, regulatory and ecosystem infrastructure for the market.

The port city exchange believes the Bengali guidebook will help bridge the existing knowledge gap surrounding commodity exchanges and encourage wider participation in the future commodity market.

Besides discussing the structure and operation of commodity exchanges, the publication also introduces some of the key primary commodities expected to be traded on the proposed CSE Commodity Exchange and analyses the current condition and future prospects of Bangladesh’s commodity market.

Bangladesh’s commodity derivatives framework has gained momentum after the approval of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Commodity Exchange Rules and the gazette notification of the Chittagong Stock Exchange regulations, paving the way for operational launch preparations.
