The Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) has recently been awarded certification for quality management from the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), an official said.

The 'ISO 9001:2015' certification will help the government organisation attract more foreign entrepreneurs in the country's information communication and technology (ICT) sector, he added.

"We received the certification last week, after meeting all the criteria set by the ISO representative organisation," said BHTPA project director ANM Safiqul Islam.

Through this achievement, Mr. Islam continued, the BHTPA has become one of the few Bangladeshi government organisations receiving such international certification for quality management.

"It's a testimony that we have been maintaining international standards in all our activities and services provided to the investors and other stakeholders," said Mr Islam, who is the director of support for the development of Kaliakoir (and other hi-tech park) project.

The certification would help the BHTPA further enhance its image among the investors home and abroad, he said.

Following the BHTPA submitted application, the ISO representative agency advised the BHTPA to bring necessary changes in its modus operandi. Later it granted the final certification after auditing.

"The recognition would help the country enhance its position in ease of doing business index to some extent," said Mr. Islam.

According to the World Bank (WB) Group's report titled 'Doing Business Report 2019', released at the end of the last year, Bangladesh ranked 176th among 190 countries, one notch up from a ranking of 177 in the previous year.

The BHTPA, an agency under the ministry of posts, telecommunications and information technology, is establishing 28 hi-tech parks across the country to promote businesses biased to technology for achieving the country's economic development goal.

According to sources, the authority has already established Sheikh Hasina Software Technology Park in Jessore and Janata Tower Technology Park in the city's Kawranbazar.

The government is working to create 2.0 million employments and earn US $ 7.0 billion from information technology (IT) sector, the BHTPA sources said.

In this regard, the successful implementation of all hi-tech park development projects is crucial.

The international standard management certification for the BHTPA has been a remarkable development for this.

The ISO does not directly certify any organisation. The representing external bodies issue certification to the organisations or businesses following required inspection.

The United Kingdom (UK) based United Certification issued the acknowledging documentation to the BHTPA.

As per the documentation, the authority has been certified since February 25 last.

The BHTPA received the certification in 'public administration and regulation, including subsidy allocation for facilitating ICT sector infrastructure', the certification reads.
