Biman posts record Tk 9.37b profit in FY25

Biman Bangladesh Airlines posted the highest-ever profit of Tk 9.37 billion in the 2024-2025 fiscal year (FY) since its inception in 1972, according to a statement from the airline.

Previously, the national flag carrier of Bangladesh recorded the highest Tk 4.4 billion as profit in the 2021-2022 fiscal year, said the statement.

The state-run Biman Bangladesh Airlines earned revenues amounting to Tk 116.31 billion in the last fiscal (FY'25), said the statement, issued by A B M Raoshan Kabir, General Manager (Public Relations) of Biman.

Apart from its primary functions of carrying passengers and cargoes, the airlines also provide ground-handling services to its own flights and other foreign airlines operating in Bangladesh.

Besides, it also offers catering services to its own flights and those of several other foreign airlines, according to the statement.

During its 55 years of operations, Biman was able to earn profits in 26 years, it said, adding that its revenue incomes surpassed Tk 100 billion-mark for the first time in the FY 2023-24.

In the 2024-2025 fiscal year, Biman Bangladesh Airlines carried 3.4 million passengers, transported 43,918 tons of cargoes and achieved a cabin factor of 82 per cent, reflecting significant increases in compared to that of previous years.

Besides, Biman sold the highest number of tickets in its history in January 2025, reflecting the airline's growing popularity in the market and increasing passengers' confidence.

The statement said Biman, which started its journey in 1972 with its revenue income of just Tk 19.0 million, has gradually evolved from its limited infrastructure and resources of war-torn Bangladesh into a 'modern and competitive' airline.

After becoming a public limited company in 2007, Biman had achieved a cumulative amount profit of Tk 5.89 billion over the past 18 years, which is a testament to the airline's stability and long-term success.

In the fiscal year 2024-2025, Biman operated a fleet of 21 aircraft, which has now come down to 19 following return of two leased aircrafts.

Its present fleet includes four Boeing 787-8 and two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.

Biman has planned to expand its routes to new popular destinations, digitalization of passenger services and operations, and strengthen its cargo services, aiming to become a leading carrier in South Asia, said the statement.
