The Customs House in Chattogram has taken an initiative to auction goods stored in 378 containers at Chattogram Port.
The auction will be conducted through an electronic auction system in a bid to ease container congestion and ensure better safety and operational efficiency at the port.
The move is part of the customs authority’s ongoing efforts to dispose of uncleared and auctionable goods in order to reduce security risks arising from container backlog, ensure physical and financial safety, prevent wastage of state assets, and enhance the port’s operational capacity, says a media release.
According to the press release, the authorities will auction 180 containers of goods in 49 lots under E-Auction-2/2026, following Special Order No. 82/2025 issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The items include various types of chemicals, machinery, plastic scrap, art paper, bitumen, fabrics, household items, vehicle parts and other goods.
The customs authority said there will be no reserved price for the consignments in this auction.
Meanwhile, under E-Auction-3/2026, a total of 198 containers in 74 lots will be auctioned in line with Standing Order No. 91/Customs/2025/123 issued by the NBR.
The goods in this auction include capital machinery, passenger elevators, metal scrap, kraft liner paper and other items.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the auctions will be conducted through a fully digital system.
Interested bidders have been allowed to physically inspect the goods throughout March, while bidding can be done online.
Prospective buyers can register and submit bids through the Bangladesh Customs’ official e-auction portal. However, bidders must also submit pay orders as security deposits along with required documents in the designated tender box.
Successful bidders will have to clear the goods in compliance with the relevant provisions of the Import Policy Order 2021–2024.
The tender box for E-Auction-2/2026 will be opened at 2:00pm on March 31, 2026, while the tender box for E-Auction-3/2026 will be opened at 2:00 pm on April 8, 2026.
Customs officials said such auction activities will continue in phases to help ease container congestion at Chattogram Port.
