Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) inaugurated drilling of an appraisal-cum-development well at Kamta gas field on Wednesday.
State minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) Anindya Islam Amit inaugurated the spud-in operation of Kamta well no-2 at the well site.
Mohammad Mohsin, former Secretary and chairman of the BGFCL board of directors and Abdul Mannan, chairman of Petrobangla, were the special guests at the function.
Speaking as the chief guest, Mr Amit underscored the necessity to reduce foreign dependence and fully utilize domestic resources.
Currently, some 570 factories are waiting to get gas connected, where investments worth billions of taka remain stalled.
“If we can supply them gas, millions of jobs will be created, which will make the state’s trillion-dollar economy dream a reality,” he said.
“We want to reach a stage where there is no gap between demand and supply. We must work towards that goal,” he added.
The BGFCL managing director Abdul Jalil Pramanik, and representatives of the integrated drilling contractor CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Limited (CCDC), were also present at the function.
