The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has allowed the country’s ride-sharing companies to resume their services with only 255 enlisted vehicles.
The regulatory body, however, did not give permission for motorbikes to operate the services on health safety grounds, and there is no immediate plan to allow resuming the service through motorbikes, a top official of BRTA told The Financial Express.
The service are allowed in Dhaka, Gazipur, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Narayanganj and Narsingdi from June 21, according to a notification issued by BRTA although public transportation, including buses, resumed on June 1.
BRTA on Sunday sent the letter to 11 ride-sharing companies, saying that only enlisted four-wheelers will be operated. The BRTA said that enlistment with it is necessary for both companies and their vehicles to get permission for the service.
