Govt fixes toll rates for Bangabandhu Tunnel

The government has fixed toll rates for different types of vehicles for using the country's first river tunnel known as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River, which is slated for a September opening.
 
In a gazette notification published on Thursday (July 13) by the Bridge Division of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, the tolls will be effective from the day of the inauguration of the tunnel. 
 
According to the gazette signed by Deputy Secretary upon President's order, the toll for jeep and pick up is set at Tk 200, buses of 31 seats and below Tk 300, buses above 32 seats Tk 400, buses with three axles Tk 500.
 
Trucks up to 5 tonnes will pay Tk 400, trucks of 5.1 tonnes to 8 tonnes Tk 500, trucks of 8.1 tonnes to 11 tonnes Tk 600, Trucks/trailers with 3 axles Tk 800, trucks with 4 axles Tk 1,000 and trucks above 4 axles will pay Tk 1,000 along with Tk 200 for per extra axle.
