The government will start procuring 1.8 million tonnes of Boro paddy and rice, along with 50,000 tonnes of wheat, from May 3 in the current Boro season.
This year, Boro paddy will be purchased at Tk 36 per kg, parboiled rice at Tk 49 per kg, white (atap) rice at Tk 48 per kg, and wheat at Tk 36 per kg.
The information was disclosed at a press conference following a meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) on Wednesday.
The FPMC meeting was chaired by Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and held at the conference room of the Press Information Department in the Secretariat. Food State Minister Abdul Bari was also present.
At the briefing, the adviser said paddy and wheat procurement will continue from May 3 to August 31, while rice procurement will run from May 15 to August 31.
He said that the country currently has sufficient rice stocks, with around 1.7–1.8 million tonnes stored in government warehouses.
Under the Boro procurement drive, the government plans to purchase 0.5 million tonnes of paddy, 1.2 million tonnes of parboiled rice, and 100,000 tonnes of atap rice.
50,000 tonnes of wheat will also be procured this season.
