Ispahani congratulates the team Aspirant BD on their participation and achievements at the 9th APBF Open Congress Bridge in Bangkok, held from May 18-27,2024.
This prestigious tournament saw competition from 24 teams across the globe, with notable participants from America, Japan, England, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Thailand.
China and Thailand were particularly well-represented, sending seven and six teams respectively The members of the participating Bangladeshi team are: Md ZahidHossein (Zahid), Deputy General Manager, Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Chief Regional Manager,Dhaka, Shah Zia UlHaque, Additional Director, Bangladesh Bank, Payment System Department, Head Office, Dhaka, A H M Kamruzzaman, Deputy General Manager, Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Head of the Branch, Narayngonj corporate branch, Narayanganj, Md Asifur Rahaman Chowdhury Rajib, Deputy General Manager, Ispahani Distribution Limited, Gulshan, Dhaka, Md Moshiur Rahman, First Assistant Vice President, Exim Bank Limited,Dhaka, Rashedul Hasan Ripon, Assistant Engineer, RPGCL, a sister concern of Petrobangla, Head Office, Dhaka.
Team Aspirant BD secured 9th place in the open category with a total of 287.88 Victory Points (VP), defeating numerous teams of expert and professional players. This performance is a milestone for Bangladeshi bridge at the Asian level.
In addition to their success in the open category, members of Aspirant BD participated in a transnational side team event. Four members of the Bangladeshi team joined forces with two Thai players to form a team named "Suicide Squad.” Competing against 53 other teams in a Swiss league format, the Suicide Squad scored 161.82 Victory Points and emerged as champions. The four Bangladeshi members of this victorious team were MD. Zahid Hossain (Zahid), Shah Zia UlHaque, A H M Kamruzzaman, and Md Moshiur Rahman.
This remarkable achievement marks a significant moment in the history of bridge in Bangladesh, as the team defeated numerous professional teams from countries such as America, China, and Hong Kong.It is worth noting that many members of team Aspirant BD also represented Bangladesh in the World Bridge Championships in 2017 and 2019.
