Knit Asia Limited, a garment manufacturing facility in Ratanpur, Shafipur, has earned LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) Platinum Certification by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

The factory achieved 99 points out of 110 and became the fourth-best green building project in the world, marking a significant milestone in its journey towards environmental stewardship and sustainable development, according to a statement.

USGBC official Ananta Ahmed handed over the certificate to Knit Asia Group chairman A Matin Chowhdury at a ceremony held on March 8.

During the ceremony, Knit Asia Limited, showcased its innovative features and technologies that contributed to its LEED Platinum certification, ranging from energy-efficient design elements to water conservation measures.

Speaking on the occasion, Ananta Ahmed (USGBC Faculty, LEED AP) from GBCI and USGBC said, "Receiving the LEED Platinum certification is a significant achievement for Knit Asia Limited, and it reflects its ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.”

He said, “LEED is not just a certificate; it is the most effective business management system if we understand and follow it. Benefits are very high and cannot be ignored.”

Mr Ahmed also said, “If we understand LEED Green Building Concepts in a factual way, the cost is not an issue, and if we analyse the costs and benefits in a meaningful way, we will see LEED Green Building cost less than regular buildings and create profit.”

Terming carbon emissions as the planet's number one enemy, he said that reducing carbon from the environment is a global challenge.

Both buyers and vendors are equally deeply concerned about our environment, and going green will not only ensure reducing energy and water usage along with lower operating costs but also improved indoor air quality and increased employee productivity, he noted.
