Leading businessman Kutubuddin Ahmed appointed honorary consul of Timor-Leste

Kutubuddin Ahmed, a leading apparel businessman and chairman of Sheltech Group, Envoy Legacy, and Envoy Textiles Ltd, has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Bangladesh, according to a media statement Wednesday.
The appointment was confirmed in a letter of patent issued by Timor-Leste's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas. This appointment empowers Mr. Ahmed to represent Timor-Leste's interests and protect its citizens in Dhaka, adhering to the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and relevant laws of both countries.
Mr Ahmed's illustrious career is marked by numerous accolades. In 2020, he was honoured with the title of Knight Officer of the Spanish Royal Order of Merit by the King of Spain for his significant contributions to enhancing bilateral relations between Spain and his country. He has also served as the former President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).
Additionally, he was the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) and received the National Sports Award in 2002. In 2016, he was named Business Person of the Year by DHL and The Daily Star.
Mr Ahmed holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from BUET and has a diverse portfolio of expertise and entrepreneurship that spans textiles and garments manufacturing, real estate, construction, ceramics, aviation, and other industries.
