The NBR Reform Alliance has asked the government to remove the current Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) immediately.
In a statement, the group said people have lost trust in his leadership and blamed him for blocking important reforms and causing confusion in the revenue system.
Earlier, the Alliance had paused its protests after the government showed interest in some reforms. But as no real action was taken, the group resumed its campaign on Thursday, added the statement.
They said the chairman stood in the way of changes suggested in a study submitted on 12 May.
The Alliance wants a new chairman who is experienced, honest, and able to lead reforms.
They warned that if the government does not act soon, protests will grow after Eid. They urged the interim government to take a clear decision for the good of the country’s tax system.
