The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has initiated the process to auction goods stored in 378 containers at the Chattogram Customs House to ease container congestion at Chattogram port.
According to a press release issued on Sunday, the auction will be conducted through an electronic auction (e-auction) system during March 2026 as part of efforts to reduce container backlogs and ensure safety and efficient port operations.
Customs authorities regularly sell unclaimed and auctionable goods through such processes to mitigate congestion risks, ensure physical and financial security, prevent wastage of state resources and enhance operational efficiency at the seaport.
Under e-auction, a total of 180 containers in 49 lots will be put up for auction following Special Order issued by the NBR.
The items include various chemicals, machinery, plastic scrap, art paper, bitumen, fabrics and different household goods.
No reserved price has been set for these consignments.
Meanwhile, under e-auction, 198 more containers in 74 lots will be auctioned in line with a Standing Order issued by the NBR.
The goods include capital machinery, passenger elevators, metal scrap, kraft liner paper and other items.
The authorities said the auction process will be conducted entirely through a digital platform to ensure transparency and accountability. To encourage participation and competitiveness, interested bidders will be allowed to inspect the goods physically throughout March, while online bidding facilities have also been arranged.
Interested buyers can register and submit bids through the Bangladesh Customs official e-auction portal. However, bidders will also have to submit pay-orders as security deposits and other required documents in the designated tender box. The highest bidders will be able to take delivery of the goods in compliance with the conditions stipulated in the Import Policy Order 2021-2024.
The tender box for e-auction will be opened at 2:00 pm on March 31, 2026, while another tender box will be opened at 2:00 pm on April 8, 2026. Officials said the auction drive will continue as part of efforts to reduce container congestion at Chattogram port and improve port efficiency.
