Today marks the 11th death anniversary of Major General (Retd) Amjad Khan Chowdhury, founder of PRAN-RFL Group.

Mr Chowdhury was a pioneer of Bangladesh's agro-processing industry.

He passed away on July 8, 2015, while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the United States.

To mark his death anniversary, a special prayer has been arranged at the PRAN Centre in the capital's Badda area after Asr prayer today (Wednesday).

PRAN-RFL Group employees will also be able to join the programme online.

Born on November 10, 1939, in Natore, Amjad Khan Chowdhury began his education at Nabakumar Institute in Dhaka before joining the Pakistan Army in 1956.

He later graduated from the Australian Staff College and retired from the Bangladesh Army as a major general in 1981.

Following his retirement, he founded Rangpur Foundry Limited (RFL), laying the foundation for PRAN-RFL Group, which has since grown into one of Bangladesh's leading manufacturers of food and household products.

The group currently employs around 158,000 people and exports its products to 148 countries.

He is widely remembered for his contribution to Bangladesh's private sector, especially in promoting agro-processing, creating employment and expanding the country's export-oriented manufacturing industry.
