Thalassaemia is a serious hereditary disease causing anemia. If both parents carry the gene for this disease, their child is likely to be born with thalassaemia. Currently, about 10-15 thousand children are born with this disease every year.

Through the Hb. Electrophoresis (OHE) test from the Bangladesh Thalassaemia Hospital, one can find out whether he is a carrier of this disease. Only awareness can prevent the birth of a child with thalassaemia by stopping the marriage of a carrier with another carrier.
