Open manholes

There are countless open manholes in the city. Those are not simply manholes, they are death traps for the city dwellers. Pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists are most probable victims of such death traps.

The Dhaka city roads are full of manholes and as we commute, we must be extremely careful so that we do not fall into these traps.
We see people talking over mobile phones or listening to music with earphones while walking along or crossing the roads.

They are the most vulnerable people to become victims to unfortunate accidents. Even when we move in rickshaws we should not talk over phone for long as it makes us unaware of our surrounding and we easily can become victim of an accident.

The city corporations should take prompt measures to have the open manholes covered and the law enforcing agencies take steps to arrest people who are involved in stealing manhole covers.

A few organized gangs are operating in the city who are involved in stealing and selling the manhole covers and if these people are promptly arrested, the number of such incidents of theft will come down drastically.

Dhaka is a mega city and we need to develop it to the level of other metropolitan cities of the world.
