Qualifications for bank jobs

Published :

Updated :

FOLLOWING a directive issued by the Bangladesh Bank (BB) asking 'not to take fees from bank job seekers' to all banks of the country, some of the private commercial banks are now making the eligibility requirement of academic qualification higher than necessary. They are doing so apparently in a bid to bring down the number of applicants. But they are being oblivious of the fact that by doing so they are actually depriving many aspirants of their rights to apply.
I do not want to name the banks, but one of them in its recent advertisement for MTO, Trainee Officer and Trainee Officer (Cash) positions, asked for GPA 5, 4.50 and 4 respectively in a scale of 5 in both SSC and HSC examinations. In both graduation and post-graduation levels the requirement is CGPA 3 in a scale of 4. If this becomes a practice of the employers, students will only focus on SSC and HSC exams more and less on higher education which carries more weight in a workplace. Students with good results at higher academic levels will be deprived in this way and they will be frustrated. I would request the Bangladesh Bank authority to please look into the matter and set a standard of academic qualifications for bank jobs.
