TEESTA river is of great importance for Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts. But the erosion of Teesta has ceated a panic now and it is flowing above the danger mark. The river destroys many homes and causes damages to farm lands every year during the monsoon. According to newspaper reports, this year many houses have been submerged and river erosion occurred at many points due to heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, a large dam has already disappeared. Many people have taken shelter elsewhere. They are passing their days amid extreme sufferings in an unhealthy environment. Relief materials are yet to reach the affected people. If these people remain like this, their agonies will be unbearable. So, the concerned authorities should come forward to save these helpless and take proper steps to stop erosion. Steps should also be taken save these people from water borne diseases.
