RIO Olympic Games have been inaugurated in Brazil in a grand fashion and the world watched the inaugural ceremony with great delight. The games will end on August 21. More than 11,000 athletes from 206 nations are participating and vying for 306 sets of medals. The games were preceded by a lot of turmoil like doping scandal and banning of Russian athletes, instability of the host country's government, and health and safety concerns due to the zika virus. But the games are on despite so many problems. Day by day, the Olympic Games are assuming a bigger shape both in terms of number of events and athletes and generating increased enthusiasm. Bangladesh is also participating in the Rio Olympics in swimming, archery and shooting events. Golfer Siddikur Rahman has become first Bangladeshi athlete to take part in the Olympic Games without having to play a qualifier. The entire Bangladesh is looking forward to good performance by our athletes participating in the Games.
