2017 to mark 0.81pc fall in remittance earnings, 34.15pc rise in overseas employment

The country’s remittance earning is expected to witness 0.81 per cent decline at the end of December this year, according to a report.
But it predicted that the overseas employment might see 34.15 per cent increase in the year subject to continuation of the current trend till the month-end.
The Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) conducted the report and came up with the observations in Dhaka on Thursday.
According to the data, expatriates sent home US$ 12.37 billion during the January to November period. If the trend continues, the total inward remittance will stand at US$ 13.50 billion in 2017.
The size of remittance was US$ 13.61 billion in 2016, the report said.
The highest sum of remittance, like the previous years, came from Saudi Arabia, which is 17.15 per cent of the sent total, followed by United Arab Emirates (UAE) 15.97 per cent, the United States (USA) 13.77 per cent, Malaysia 7.53 per cent and the United Kingdom (UK) 7.38 per cent.
