The IMF said on Tuesday that it is holding talks with the Bangladeshi authorities to further advance the ongoing reforms under the $4.7 billion lending arrangement.

“(Discussions) are currently ongoing virtually on the parameters and policies needed to sustain reform momentum under the programme,” an IMF spokesperson told The Financial Express.

She also said that discussions with Bangladeshi authorities toward reaching an agreement also took place during the 2025 IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, DC, in late April.

Prior to that, an IMF staff team led by Chris Papageorgiou visited Dhaka during April 6–17 to conduct a combined third and fourth review for Bangladesh’s economic reform programme, supported by the International Monetary Fund under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), Extended Credit Facility (ECF), and the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) arrangements.

However, both the discussions held in Dhaka and Washington were unsuccessful, and the two sides failed to reach an agreement.

On Monday, the two sides held a virtual meeting, which ended inconclusively. They will also hold a meeting on Tuesday again, according to Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
