Bringing down inflation to 6.5pc will be a challenge: FBCCI

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Saturday said bringing down inflation to 6.5 per cent will be the biggest challenge for the government for the fiscal year 2024-2025 (FY25).
Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali placed a Tk 7.97 trillion national budget on Thursday with the expectation of cutting down inflation to 6.5 per cent.
FBCCI, the country's apex trade body, in its formal reaction on the day, said the May inflation was 9.89 per cent.
The FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam said the inflation must be contained as it is hitting hard the limited income group of people.
The FBCCI president said the finance minister has proposed measures to discourage unproductive and unnecessary spending. He said that government spending should have been lowered more.
The finance minister on Friday at a post-budget media briefing said inflation may go down within the next six months.
