President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Sheikh Fazle Fahim said the country has a huge competitive edge in the manufacturing sector.
"Our competitiveness in all types of manufacturing industries is very much important in investment perspective," he said in an interview with the FE.
The country, which is strategically located in south Asia, has also market access to many advanced economies, said the chief of the apex trade promotion body.
"Considering the domestic market of over 160 million people and the regional market of 0.4 billion people, the investors can choose the country as an ideal place for investment," he noted.
Besides, the costs of labour and other required utilities are still much lower in the country than in any part of the world, he pointed out.
The FBCCI is hosting a two-day CACCI conference beginning in Dhaka today (Tuesday).
The Taipei-based Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) in partnership with the FBCCI has organised the event for the first time in Dhaka.
Salman F Rahman, private industry and investment advisor to the Prime Minister, is expected to attend the inaugural session of the conference as the chief guest to be held at a city hotel.
The theme of the conference is "Asia: At the Centre of a New World Order."
Mr. Fahim, who is the vice president of the CACCI, said: "During the conference, we will try to explore how to expand our trade and investment among the CACCI nations."
