Bangladesh will raise the issue of importing US-made goods through third countries during the upcoming bilateral negotiations on reciprocal tariffs with the United States, said Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman on Saturday.
Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on US reciprocal tariffs in Dhaka, Mr Rahman said that many American products are currently imported into Bangladesh via countries like Singapore, the UAE, and India. Under such procurement, the goods become expensive rather than competitive.
"We will raise this issue during our meeting with our US counterpart," the commerce secretary said while addressing the seminar, organised by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with BUILD.
He said that if the US does not address Bangladesh’s concerns on this matter, the government will consider taking action in line with the WTO rules.
