Bangladesh won’t take IMF loan accepting all conditions: Finance Adviser

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed said Tuesday the government is no longer an IMF-World Bank-dependent country and would not take loans from the IMF by accepting all conditions they put forward.

“If the IMF doesn’t agree to pay the budget support credit, we will prepare the budget on our own,” he told newsmen Tuesday after a meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase at the Bangladesh secretariat.

He said there are some issues with the IMF; those are not major things. “But we would rather not follow all these conditions.”

Mr Ahmed said while in a meeting with the IMF officials in Washington last week, they suggested implementing some conditions.

“But we said we won’t walk that way,” he said, adding Bangladesh’s macroeconomic stability is much better.
