Ensuring good governance, national solidarity, and better coordination among stakeholders is vital to coping with the challenges following the country's graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
This was observed at a workshop titled "Local-Level Stakeholders' Consultation on Inclusive, Smooth, and Sustainable LDC Graduation" held at the Munshiganj DC Office on Saturday.
The Support to Sustainable Graduation Project (SSGP) of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) organised the workshop in collaboration with the Munshiganj district administration, the SSGP said in a statement.
Home Affairs and Agriculture Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury attended the programme as the chief guest.
Adviser to the Ministry of Industries Adilur Rahman Khan, Special Assistant to the Ministry of Finance Dr Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, and ERD Secretary Shahriar Kader Siddiky also attended the event, with Deputy Commissioner of Munshiganj Fatema Tul Jannat in the chair.
Mr Chowdhury said that good governance should receive due priority to prepare the country for the post-graduation challenges.
He further said Bangladesh's agricultural sector should become more export-oriented in order to be ready for the transition.
Dr Anisuzzaman Chowdhury stressed national unity and solidarity for achieving long-term national goals.
Mr Siddiky emphasised active initiatives from the private sector alongside the government in tackling the challenges of LDC graduation. He also noted that there is potential to establish a biotechnology village in Munshiganj.
Additional Secretary of the ERD and Project Director of SSGP A.H.M. Jahangir delivered the welcome remarks, emphasising the need to sensitise local private sector representatives, especially those in export-oriented industries, about the opportunities that will emerge after graduation.
Speakers at the workshop noted that there is significant potential for developing agro-processing and tourism industries in Munshiganj.
In this context, they called for infrastructure development, expansion of transportation networks, and ensuring uninterrupted gas and electricity supply to factories, along with skill enhancement programmes for the local youth.
