Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed said the new national budget was not crafted with "a flurry of fancy words" but shaped under challenging conditions, including high inflation, banking and energy sector issues, and poor revenue collection.
“For the first time, the size of the budget has not been increased,” he noted.
He made the remarks on Tuesday at a post-budget press conference held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, a day after the FY 2025–26 budget was unveiled, according to local media.
Dr. Ahmed said the government presented the budget despite the absence of a national parliament, as part of its commitment to the people.
]He emphasised that the economy was near collapse when the interim government took office and that their efforts had brought stability.
Describing the budget as people- and business-friendly, he admitted reforms are ongoing and said the government has laid a foundation for future administrations to build on.
