ICAB-FE pre-budget roundtable begins

A pre-budget roundtable discussion jointly organised by The Financial Express (FE) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) began today at CA Bhaban in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area.

The event is scheduled to be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and will focus on issues related to the upcoming national budget.

Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Finance and Planning adviser to the Prime Minister, is attending the programme as the chief guest.

The roundtable is being chaired by Shamsul Huq Zahid, Editor of The Financial Express, while N K A Mobin, FCA, President of ICAB, is delivering the welcome address.

Sabbir Ahmed, FCA, Council Member of ICAB, will present the keynote paper.

The session is being moderated by Shiabur Rahman Shihab, Head of Online and Multimedia at FE.

Several senior economists, business leaders, tax experts and representatives of trade bodies are joining the discussion as panellists.

They include Muhammad Abdul Majid, former chairman of the National Board of Revenue; MBM Lutful Hadee, FCA, chairman of ICAB’s Taxation and Corporate Laws Committee; Dr Fahmida Khatun, executive director of the Centre for Policy Dialogue; and Md Farid Uddin, former member of customs policy at the NBR.

Other panellists include Doulot Akter Mala, president of the Economic Reporters’ Forum; Taskeen Ahmed, president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Kamran T. Rahman, president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Syed Ershad Ahmed, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh.

Representatives from key business bodies are also attending, including Reza Ur Rahman Mahmud of AmCham, Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, president of BGMEA, Showkat Aziz Russell, president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, and Mohammad Hatem, president of BKMEA.
