The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Sunday launched large-value tax payment facilities through mobile financial services (MFS) to make corporate tax payment easier, faster and more digital.
As part of the inauguration, trial transactions were conducted through bKash Limited's online merchant wallet service.
These included tax deducted at source (TDS) payments amounting to Tk 130 million and value-added tax (VAT) payments of Tk 640 million.
With the introduction of this facility, corporate taxpayers can now make tax payments entirely through digital channels without having to physically visit banks.
Speaking at the event, Secretary of the Internal Resources Division and Chairman of the NBR, Md Abdur Rahman Khan, said the initiative would significantly improve convenience for corporate taxpayers.
"The introduction of large-value tax payments through mobile financial services will make tax payment faster and more efficient. It will play a significant role in modernising and upgrading the tax collection system," he said.
He noted that many corporate entities are already using mobile financial services to pay the salaries of their employees. Under the new system, they will also be able to pay various taxes, including withholding tax and VAT, on the same platform.
He expressed the hope that other MFS providers would introduce similar services in the future.
Under the new arrangement, withholding tax can be paid through the NBR's electronic Tax Deducted at Source (e-TDS) system, while VAT payments can be made through the Finance Division's A-Challan system.
Officials said the digital initiative would enhance transparency in tax payments, reduce transaction time and costs, and encourage more efficient large-value tax payments.
They added that the government will continue efforts to modernise revenue administration, expand digital transactions and strengthen cashless government financial services.
