The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) has set up a task force (TF) to curb submission of fake audit reports by corporate taxpayers to taxmen.
The team of intelligence officials will also ensure submission of tax returns and obtaining TIN (taxpayer's identification number) by registered companies, said a CIC statement.
CIC director general Alamgir Hossain issued the statement forming the task force on Thursday.
The seven-member task force, headed by CIC director Md Shabbir Ahmed, will identify the companies avoiding filing tax returns or obtaining TIN.
It will make a list of companies and coordinate with field-level tax offices. The team will prepare a work plan to bring all companies under the tax net.
It will also devise a work plan to thwart submission of fake audit report to the tax authorities by companies.
The task force will identify problems and recommend a way out on the submission of authentic audit reports, tax returns and tax registration.
It will monitor activities undertaken to check submission of fake audit reports, TIN registration or return submission and submit a report.
It will collect necessary information from the Registrar of Joint Stock and Companies, and contact the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh for a plan to stop fake report submissions.
The ICT wing of the National Board of Revenue will assist the task force in detecting the taxpayers without e-TIN, data matching and such.
