The BNP has expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to announce a clear roadmap for national elections, despite recent discussions between the Chief Adviser and leaders of political parties.
“The statement issued by the Advisory Council is vague and confusing,” said BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain at a press conference at the party Chairperson’s Political Office in Dhaka’s Gulshan on Tuesday. “Public doubt has arisen due to a lack of neutrality and weak governance.”
He warned that continued cooperation with the government would be “difficult” without a specific election timeline.
Mosharraf referred to media reports that Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus may step down, saying the issue sparked “intense public discussion.” However, he noted that the government’s response lacked clarity on the election process.
Commenting on the government’s claim of administrative disruption, he said, “That is essentially the government’s own doing.”
He added that reforms and elections could proceed in parallel and called for broader unity to counter “fascist forces.”
Mosharraf also called on the authorities to arrange the swearing-in of Ishraque Hossain as Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation “without delay.”
BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed, among others, were present.
