Cyclone Midhili has begun to cross the Mongla-Payra coast near Khepupara, bringing strong winds and rains.

The cyclone is expected to complete the crossing by Friday evening, according to the Met Office’s latest bulletin, reports bdnews24.com.

Bangladesh raised the storm warning to danger signal 7 for Mongla and Payra ports. The authorities issued danger signal 6 for Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar ports.

Coastal districts of Lakshmipur, Feni, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and shoal areas were likely to be inundated by a wind-driven surge of 3-5 feet height above normal tide.

The deep depression over the northwest bay and adjoining area moved northeastwards further and intensified into a cyclonic storm on Friday morning.

The north Bay of Bengal and its offshore islands and coastal areas in Bangladesh are likely to experience heavy rainfall with gusty wind, the Met Office forecast.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the north bay and deep sea were advised to remain in shelter until further notice.
