The authorities had initially said that secondary schools in districts where the maximum temperature drops below 17 degrees Celsius this winter would close.

However, some time after, according to local media, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) revised its decision.

In a fresh circular on Tuesday, the DSHE announced that secondary schools in districts where the maximum temperature falls below 10 degrees Celsius will close.

The circular noted that severe cold waves in various districts of the country are disrupting the normal educational activities of students.

DSHE regional directors have been instructed to coordinate with district education officers to implement the closures in cases of temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius.

The circular specifies that schools will remain closed until maximum temperatures rise to 10 degrees Celsius or above.
