ECNEC clears Patuakhali naval base, 15 other projects

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 16 development projects at a combine cost of Tk 52.21 billion.

The approved 16 project include new naval base establishment project aiming to ensure security for Payra Port in Kalapara of Patuakhali.

The approval was given at 13th meeting of the ECNEC on Tuesday at NEC conference room in Dhaka. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the ECNEC chairperson, presided over the meeting.

Emerging from the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said the government will provide Tk 47.40 billion funds from its internal resources.

The government will collect Tk 4.62 billion from the external resources as project aid and the remaining Tk 138.3 million from the agencies’ own fund to implement the 16 approved projects.

Meanwhile, UNB says, the naval base project, BNS Sher-e-Bangla Patuakhali, will be implemented from June 2018 to June 2021 at an estimated cost of Tk 10.81 billion. The entire fund will come from the state coffer.

Ministers, Planning Commission officials and high officials of different ministries concerned were present at the ECNEC meeting.
