Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, State Minister for Planning, said the government is preparing to address the potential impacts of global wars and economic instability.

He said the government is also giving special importance to job creation in its development planning.

Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled "Bi-annual Economic State & Future Outlook of Bangladesh Economy- Private Sector Perspective" organised by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) in Motijheel on Monday, he made these remarks.

The state minister said the government is working to quickly translate policy plans into practical actions to advance the country’s economy in an inclusive and democratic manner. At the same time, the government is closely monitoring the situation with maximum caution and preparedness to address the possible impacts of global instability and ongoing wars.

He said several policies have already been determined based on the government’s election manifesto and plans, and efforts are now underway to implement them quickly.

However, due to the global situation—particularly ongoing wars and international instability—the government is preparing to deal with possible impacts on the economy, he said.

Noting that Bangladesh, like many other countries, has also faced the effects of the situation, Saki said preparations have been taken on how to keep the economy stable and deal with potential crises.

The finance minister, the power and energy minister and other relevant ministries will provide detailed information on the matter when necessary, according to him.

Saki said one of the government’s key goals is to give a democratic character to the country’s economic structure.

Emphasis is being placed on inclusive development so that the benefits of development do not remain confined to infrastructure or a limited group of people, but instead bring real change to the lives of every citizen, he pointed out.

He said increasing investment and ensuring the highest possible return from those investments are also among the government’s priorities.

The state minister added that plans have been taken to increase investment in education, health and training sectors to build a skilled and humane population. The goal is to develop a workforce capable of adapting to technological changes.

He noted that the country’s economy had once reached the brink of collapse. The government’s goal now is to bring it back to a dynamic state and move it forward in an inclusive and democratic direction.

The state minister also said that the work of rebuilding the economy will be carried forward by engaging all stakeholders.

He expressed hope that the government’s sincere efforts will bring positive changes to the country’s economy.

DCCI president Taskeen Ahmed gave the address of welcome.

Dr. Monzur Hossain, Member (Secretary), General Economics Division, Bangladesh Planning Commission, A.H.M. Jahangir, Additional Secretary & Project Director, Support to Sustainable Graduation Project (SSGP) and Dr. Mohammad Akhtar Hossain, Chief Economist, Bangladesh Bank also attended the event as Special Guests.
