Local oil, gas exploration activities to be expedited: Nasrul Hamid

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Thursday that domestic oil and gas exploration activities will be expedited from all internal sources.

“Natural gas from Bhola will be taken to the mainland through the pipelines within three years,” he told the journalists while visiting Shahbazpur Gas Field at Borhanuddin upazila in Bhola.

The state minister said that Bhola is a natural gas-rich island, adding, “We have undertaken initiatives to dig nine more exploration wells in Bhola. A two-dimensional seismic survey will be conducted in the Bholar river area soon.”

Meanwhile, Petrobangla has started drilling and re-drilling 46 wells, from which 612 million cubic feet of gas will be added to the national grid, Nasrul Hamid said.

He said 112 million cubic feet of gas have already been added to the national grid under this programme in 2023, and the programme is also going on in full swing.

The state minister stressed the importance of creating employment in Bhola by providing gas connections to industries in Bhola on a priority basis.

"Currently, 5 million cubic feet of gas are being transformed into compressed Natural Gas (CNG) daily from Bhola for industries in the country.

It will be increased to 25 million cubic feet in phases,” he added.

Energy and Mineral Division Secretary Md Nurul Alam accompanied by the state minister during the visit.
