The UAE will start recruiting Bangladeshi workers within the next three months, said expatriates’ welfare minister Nurul Islam BSC on Monday.
He said it while addressing a press conference at the city’s Prabashi Kalyan Bhaban on the recent deal signed between Dhaka and Abu Dhabi.
As per the MoU, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will recruit workers in its domestic help sector in 19 categories.
The categories are housemaids, private sailors, watchmen and security guard, shepherd, family driver, falconer, housekeeper, cook, nanny, domestic labourers, farmer, gardener, private couch, baby sitter, farmers, private nurse, private assistants, farm supervisor and parking worker.
Nurul Islam also said the gulf nation will select eligible manpower recruiters to take workers to their country.
The minister, however, said a joint working committee will be formed very soon to finalise the sending process of workers, migration cost and other related issues.
“Before any announcement from the government, workers should not make any deal with manpower recruiters,” he advised the aspirants.
Since 2012, the UAE stopped hiring manpower from Bangladesh. The government has been negotiating with the authority of the Arab country to restart recruiting workers from here since then.
The expatriate’s welfare ministry’s secretary Nomita Halder who signed the MoU on behalf of Bangladesh government informed journalists that some Bangladeshi workers are involved in criminal activities in the UAE.
The UAE is delaying taking workers from Bangladesh because of their illegal activities, she said.
More than 2.3 million Bangladeshis went to the oil-rich country with jobs between 1976 and March 2018, according to the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET).
BMET director general Salim Reza was present among others senior officials during the briefing.
