The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Sunday launched a new software called Tax Representative Management System (TRMS) to facilitate smooth and hassle-free online submission of income tax returns through authorised tax representatives.
Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed inaugurated the system at the NBR Multipurpose Hall.
Developed jointly by NBR’s income tax officials and IT programmers, the software is designed to digitise the taxpayer representation process and ensure greater efficiency and accountability in tax administration.
According to NBR, authorised representatives—empowered by taxpayers under the Income Tax Act—will be able to file returns online through TRMS after registering in the system.
To appoint a representative, a taxpayer must authorise them by providing a one-time password (OTP) received on their biometric-registered mobile phone.
All returns submitted by a representative will be stored under their profile in the TRMS system, allowing them to retrieve information anytime.
The system offers a user-friendly interface for both taxpayers and representatives, eliminating the need for physical paperwork and reducing risks of data loss.
Key features of TRMS included Digital registration of all authorised tax representatives under the Income Tax Act, Online authorisation of representatives by taxpayers through OTP, Centralised storage of all returns filed by each representative, Transparency in e-return filing on behalf of taxpayers and Easy-to-use interface for both taxpayers and representatives.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan.
President of Bangladesh Tax Lawyers’ Association (BTLA) Advocate Ramiz Uddin Ahmed, President of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) Mahtab Uddin, Vice President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) Md Rokonuzzaman, and President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) M Nasimul Hai were present at the programme as special guests.
