NEC approves Tk 2.46 trillion ADP for FY23

The National Economic Council (NEC) on Tuesday approved a Tk 2.46 trillion Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the next fiscal year (FY23).

The transport and communication sector has got the highest allocation in the ADP. The government also prioritised ensuring optimum utilisation of public funds through checking misuse.

The ADP was approved during a meeting of the NEC with NEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair, reports BSS.

The prime minister joined the meeting virtually from Ganabhaban. Ministers, State Ministers, Planning Commission members and secretaries concerned attended the meeting from the NEC Conference Room in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area and also from the Cabinet Division conference room at the secretariat.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said that out of the original ADP outlay of Tk 2.46 trillion for the next fiscal year, Taka 1.53 trillion will come from the local sources while the rest of Taka 930.00 billion as project assistance from external sources.

State Minister for Planning Dr Shamsul Alam, Planning Commission members and secretaries concerned were present at the briefing.

However, considering an allocation of Tk 99.37 billion against the autonomous bodies and corporations, the overall ADP allocation for the next fiscal has reached Tk 2.56 trillion.

The size of the original ADP in the current fiscal year (FY22) was Tk 2.25 trillion, which was later downsised to Tk 2.07 trillion.

The fresh ADP for FY23 is around 9.21 per cent higher than the original ADP of the current fiscal year and 18.56 per cent higher than the revised ADP of the current fiscal year.

Some 1,435 projects are included in the new ADP including some 1,244 investment projects, some 106 technical assistance projects and some 85 projects to be financed from the own fund of the autonomous bodies and corporations. 

Out of the 15 sectors, the transport and communication sector witnessed the highest ADP allocation of Tk 706.96 billion in the next fiscal year followed by the Power and Energy Sector Tk 394.12 billion, the education sector Tk 290.81 billion, the health sector Tk 192.78 billion.

The other sectors with fresh ADP allocation are: General government services sector Tk 28.75 billion, defence sector Tk 12.70 billion, public discipline and protection sector with Tk 36.10 billion, industry and economic services sector Tk 54.07 billion, agriculture sector Tk 101.44 billion, local government and rural development with Tk 164.65 billion, environment, climate change and water resources with Tk 98.59 billion, housing and community facilities with Tk 244.97 billion, religion, culture and entertainment sector with Tk 23.65 billion, science and ICT sector with Tk 41.68 billion and social security sector with Tk 25.70 billion.
