PANCHAGARH: Farmers are expecting a bumper groundnut production in all the five upazilas of Panchagarh district in the current season.

Sources with the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said suitable soil and climatic condition have contributed to achieving the bumper groundnut production.

The sources said a total of 7,500 hectares of land were brought under groundnut cultivation this year with a production target of 14,200 tonnes.

The farmers have cultivated high yielding groundnut on their lands for getting a maximum output.

Ainal Huque, a farmer of Benghari village under Boda upazila, said, "Last year I cultivated groundnut on my two bighas of land spending only TK 7,000, but I earned Tk 26,000 by selling the groundnut."

He said, "This year I have cultivated groundnut on my four bighas of land and I am expecting a net profit of Taka 50,000 from the groundnut farming."

Another farmer Sunil Kumar of the same village said he has been getting a good profit through cultivating groundnut on a commercial basis for the last three years.

DAE Deputy Director Md, Samchul Huque said the farmers of the district are showing great interest in cultivation of groundnut.
