The General Economics Division (GED) suspended the 6th five-year plan (FYP) review report sharing programme, scheduled to be held at the Planning Commission (PC) in the capital on Monday afternoon.

However, many invited guests and journalists claimed that they were not informed about the suspension of the programme in time. Some of them said they were not informed about it at all.

When asked, a GED official said: "We have deferred the function. The planning minister instructed us to suspend it on Monday morning."

"The chief guest and special guests were given the schedule. Besides, we paid for food and other necessary logistics for the programme," he added.

GED organised the '6th FYP review report sharing programme' at PC office. Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal was scheduled to be present at the function as the president.

Agriculture Minister Matia Choudhury was invited as the chief guest. Prime Minister's political adviser H T Imam and senior economist Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud were invited as the special guests.

Besides, secretaries and senior officials of ministries as well as some editors and journalists were also invited at the function.

GED Member Professor Shamsul Alam told the FE that the planning minister told him to postpone the programme.

"The minister on Monday morning told me to defer the programme, as the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting will be held on Tuesday. So, we cancelled it," he added.

Professor Alam apologised to the guests, who could not be informed in time about the programme suspension.
