The United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) have announced fresh aid commitments totalling US$96 million at the first-ever High-Level Conference on the Situation of the Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar, held at the UN headquarters on Tuesday.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam disclosed the information in a post shared on his verified Facebook account, BSS reprots.

According to him, the US pledged US$60 million while the UK committed US$36 million.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus addressed the “Opening Session of the High-Level Conference on the Situation of the Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar” at the United Nations Headquarters.

Stressing that Rohingya repatriation is the “only peaceful solution” to the protracted crisis, he proposed seven actions, including the formulation of a practical roadmap for the safe and dignified return of the Rohingyas with reasonable stabilisation of Rakhine.

“As funding declines, the only peaceful option is to begin their repatriation,” he said.
